VERNON - Don't roll up your sleeve just yet — a public flu clinic in Vernon has been rescheduled because demand is exceeding supply.
Public flu clinics at the Schubert Centre, 3505 30 Ave. for Dec. 4 and Jan. 8 will instead take place Jan. 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. according to a media release from Interior Health.
Those eligible for the publicly funded vaccine may still be able to get the vaccine through a doctor and at pharmacies offering the vaccine, but Interior Health says to call ahead to make sure the vaccine is available. Free immunizations are given to those over the age of 65, pregnant women, children 6-59 months, people with chronic health issues and health care workers.

This year the shot focuses on influenza A strains H1N1 and H3N2 as well as influenza B. While H1N1 was a pandemic strain in 2009 it is now a common strain. H3N2 is a strain that can cause more serious illness in seniors and the B strain is typically a lot harder on children.
