PENTICTON - Former Coun. Wes Hopkin has officially endorsed his colleague and mayoral candidate Coun. Andrew Jakubeit for the hot seat.

In a letter, Hopkin said his experience working alongside Jakubeit as councillor for three years showed him that Jakubeit has the leadership skills to successfully run the city as mayor.

Hopkin said he has always found him hardworking, dedicated and calm under pressure.

“Penticton would be well served to have someone with his talents leading our city.”

The city has made a lot of improvements, both internally and externally, he said, through strengthening relationships with the community and the Penticton Indian Band to revitalizing the waterfront and downtown core.

He said these changes couldn't have happened without forward thinking, professional leadership on Council and at City Hall.

“I firmly believe Andrew is the candidate who will continue this leadership as Mayor,” Hopkin said.

He said it’s too late to turn back, since many of the improvement plans are still in progress, and Penticton residents need to decide whether they want a leader who will see these plans through or someone who will “turn our city over to those with narrow minds and even narrower visions.”
