KAMLOOPS - The Thompson Nicola Regional District has banned boating on two lakes in the region.

Due to flooding no motorized boating is allowed on Nicola Lake east of Merritt and Stump Lake south of Kamloops.

The ban starts today, May 19, and will run until lake levels drop, according to a media release from the Regional District.

Motorized boating may cause safety issues since there’s debris in the water and property damage to lakefront properties.

The District says officers will be able to take action if people don’t follow the ban. Violators may be prosecuted or fined.
