FLOOD WATCH 2017: Drop-in centres for flood victims in Thompson-Nicola Regional District

MERRITT – People affected by the recent flooding can access clean up kits and information about relief funding tomorrow in Merritt or today in Kamloops. 

“We really urge people to come down. If they have questions and are affected by the floods, it’ll be a one stop shop,” Mike Garrett with regional district says.

To access these services, stop by the Merritt Civic Centre on Saturday, May 13 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Doors are also open Tuesday, Thursday and the following Saturday, May 20.

“We are here to help people out who are affected by the floods,” Garrett says.

Yesterday, the Regional District set up a resiliency centre in Kamloops. The Kamloops centre is located at the Coast Kamloops Hotel and Convention Centre today Friday May 12, Monday, Wednesday and the following Friday, May 19 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Since May 5, several evacuation orders have been issued and a state of local emergency due to flooding was declared on the evening of May 8.
