KELOWNA - The fire that destroyed a business on Totom Avenue is now out, but danger hasn't fully subsided.

Firefighters were called to Northern Lite Manufacturing Ltd at 322 Totom around 12:20 a.m. and found heavy smoke. They hit it hard with up to 40 firefighters but once the blaze got to the roof, it was inevitable.

"Due to the volatile nature of the fire & fuel load within, the fire soon consumed the entire roof of the structure causing a collapse," says Deputy Fire Chief Larry Hollier. No firefighters were inside at the time.

Now that the fire is out, clean up begins with the hazmat team. Ministry of Environment and city utlities were contacted because water runoff could impact a nearby creek. The fire department's hazard materials team is still on scene trying to mitigate any run off with monitoring by provincial authorities.

More information is expected later today.
