TORONTO - Writer-director Jamie M. Dagg has won the Claude Jutra Award for his debut feature "River."
The award recognizes the outstanding work of a first-time filmmaker.
The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television will present the honour at the Canadian Screen Awards on March 13.
"River" features Rossif Sutherland as a doctor in Laos who becomes a fugitive after he intervenes in the sexual assault of a young woman. Sutherland is nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for his performance.
Dagg has two short films under his belt, as well as music videos for Broken Social Scene, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Bedouin Soundclash.
"River" hits select theatres March 4.
