CIS Roundup: Quarterback Jeremi Roch, kicker Johnny Mark enter record book

SHERBROOKE, Que. - Sherbrooke Vert et Or quarterback Jeremi Roch and Calgary Dinos kicker Johnny Mark entered the CIS football record book on Saturday.

At Sherbrooke, Roch completed 16 of 35 passes for 145 yards and one touchdown as the ninth-ranked Vert et Or (3-2) upset the reigning Vanier Cup champion and No. 4-ranked Montreal Carabins (3-2) 17-12.

The native of LaSalle, Que., moved into first place on the CIS all-time list for most career completions (817) and passing attempts (1,384). Former McGill standout Matt Connell held both previous national marks (816/1,364) since 2008.

In the passing yards category, Roch moved to within 63 of the CIS record set in 2009 by Western's Michael Faulds (10,748 vs. 10,811) with three league games remaining in his career.

At Calgary, Mark kicked five field goals and racked up 23 points as the top-ranked Dinos moved to 5-0 on the season with a 59-19 domination of No. 8 Saskatchewan (2-3).

With his fifth successful kick of the afternoon, a 27-yarder with 8:48 remaining in the contest, the Peterborough, Ont., product tied the CIS career field-goal record of 84 set a year ago by former McMaster all-star Tyler Crapigna. Mark had a chance to establish a new standard against the visiting Huskies but missed his first attempt of the day, a 42-yarder into a significant wind that sailed left 6:11 into the opening quarter.

The 2014 CFL draft pick also added to his own CIS scoring mark, which now stands at 489 points.
