Fall colours event this weekend at Baldy Mountain Resort

It's looking more like winter than fall at Mount Baldy, but the view from the top of the Sugar Lump chair should still be spectacular this weekend as the resort hosts its second annual fall colours festival.

PENTICTON - Baldy Mountain hosts their second annual fall colours event this weekend.

There’s already 50 centimetres of snow at the top of the Eagle Chair, but the panoramic view of the surrounding countryside at the top is worth the trip.

Several activities are taking place on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 22 and 23 from noon to 4 p.m. at the resort. The Sugar Lump chairlift will be in operation and local wine and beer purveyors will be on hand with tastings.

Visitors are also asked to bring non-perishable food, a household item or cash donation for the Oliver Food Bank, or a cash donation for the South Okanagan Rehabilitation Centre for Owls.

Free hot dogs and burgers will be available. Visitors can also take the opportunity to apply for a job at the resort, pick up or purchase their ski pass, or meet the Baldy staff.

The event attracted 300 visitors last year.

The official opening date for Baldy Mountain Resort is slated for Dec. 1, but if enough snow comes down between now and then, opening day could be advanced.
