VERNON - On Saturday Sept. 26, 2015, an all-day community celebration will be held to mark the grand opening of the Greater Vernon Athletics Park. The day will include various activities, tours, live music and performances, and there will be booths with sports registration and other information available.

The official opening ceremony will take place at 12:00 p.m. (noon), but don’t be late since you won’t want to miss the mascot races starting at 11:30 a.m. Food trucks will be on location, so be sure to arrive early to enjoy the food and fun.

“This will be an exciting event, and a great opportunity for the community to come out, tour their new facility and see it in action,” says Bob Fleming, Director and member of the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee.

“A lot of work and planning went into this park, and this event will be a great way to celebrate it with the community,” says Rick Fairbairn, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Regional District.

The evening events will start at 6:30 p.m., and will include football, lacrosse and soccer played under the lights, and will be a great opportunity to bring a blanket, hit the food trucks, and enjoy some sports under the stars.

“I am very pleased that the Province was able to partner with the Regional District. This facility will meet the needs of the community now, and well into the future,” says MLA Eric Foster referring to the $50,000 contribution toward the showers in the park building. “I am really looking forward to the grand opening, and seeing the community enjoy it.”

The Province will also be on hand at the opening ceremony to make a special announcement.
