DISTRICT UP OVER 500 STUDENTS AT LAST COUNT BUT NUMBER COULD DROP

CENTRAL OKANAGAN - Enrollment is well up in the Central Okanagan school district over last year.

Superintendent of schools Kevin Kaardal, in a report to school trustees, says enrolment as of Sept. 9 is already up over 500 students from the last year’s final number of 21,653 registered students, recorded Sept. 30, 2015.

He cautions that number could drop by the end of the month, once withdrawals are factored in.

“If previous patterns continue, this total number will decrease somewhat by the end of September,” he says.

Kaardal says the school district had projected an increase of just under 200 students for this year.

The superintendent says a more accurate count will be available after final submissions to the Ministry of Education at the end of the month.
