Emergency evacuation empties Kelowna court house

The jury was out today - along with all other court officials, staff and public in the Kelowna court house when a fire alarm was pulled around 9:30 this morning.

All proceedings came to a grinding halt when the fire department showed up and cleared the building. No one was allowed in or near the building's entrance while fire crews investigated the incident.

They determined it was a false alarm. A young child standing on one of the couches in the lobby accidently pulled the alarm, but security had difficulty locating the key to disarm the system.

It took just under an hour before this morning's court cases were back in session.
