ELECTION 2014 FORUMS: Time to quiz your candidates

Vernon City Hall

VERNON - Dates have been set for area voters to learn more about their municipal candidates.

The Vernon Performing Arts Centre will host two forums, one for City of Vernon candidates and the other for District of Coldstream nominees. Both will provide an opportunity for candidates to state their platforms, and for the public to ask questions both in written form and open mic.

It’s free to attend the forum, however you’re encouraged to make a donation for the Society’s Children’s Theatre Fund which will be matched by the Performing Arts Centre Society and used to purchase Children's Theatre tickets that will be distributed to families otherwise unable to attend performances.

The Vernon forum is set for Oct. 28 and 7 p.m. and the Coldstream forum for Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.

The Downtown Vernon Association is providing an opportunity to hear specifically from the city’s mayoral candidates Oct. 20 from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. The event will feature a light breakfast with candidates Mary-Jo O’keefe, Victor Cumming, Akbal Mund and Klaus Tribes at the Century 21 boardroom at 2907 32 St. The discussion will focus on issues that affect downtown’s future. Pre-registration is required and seating is limited. Call Dina at 250-542 5851 to register. If you have questions for the candidates please send in writing to Dina at dina@downtownvernon.com. The forum is free for members of the downtown business community.

The Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce will host two all candidates forums at the Centennial Theatre in Armstrong. Candidates vying for council in Armstrong will be invited to attend the forum Tuesday Oct. 28 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Those seeking a seat in Spallumcheen will be invited to attend a candidates forum, also at the Centennial Theatre, Wednesday Oct. 29 beginning at 7:00 p.m. The evening will begin with an introduction of the candidates, followed by questions from the floor and ending with a brief closing statement from each candidate.

Can’t attend the Armstrong or Spallumcheen events but have a question for the candidates? Send your questions to manager@aschamber.com and they will be posted on the Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce facebook page with the opportunity for candidates to answer them.
