After over 5,000 contacts with the community and a year of work by Steering Committee members, the City of Penticton is pleased to share the second draft of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The draft is available online today and contains over 150 recommendations for City parks, beaches, trails, outdoor recreation amenities, indoor recreation facilities and recreation programs and services.

“This will be the City’s first Parks and Recreation Master Plan since 1993,” says Jeff Lynka, Parks Supervisor and staff representative on the Steering Committee along with Lori Mullin, Recreation & Culture Manager. “It will provide some much needed guidance to the City on parks and recreation services over the next 10 years.”

The draft plan is now available at shapeyourcitypenticton.ca. Hard copies will also be available for viewing at City Hall, the Community Centre and at the Library. Residents will have a chance to discuss the plan with the Steering Committee, staff and Urban Systems representatives at the third Open House on May 1 from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre. Residents can also share their feedback online now until May 15. Feedback gathered at the open house and online will be incorporated into this draft with the goal of creating a final version to present to City Council at the end of June.

Guidance on Commercial Use

The plan also offers recommendations to address resident concerns about commercial activity in City parks and includes the preliminary work of the Steering Committee on regulating commercial uses in parklands.  Residents will have an opportunity to learn more about the work to regulate commercial uses in parklands during one of the two special presentations that will be hosted as part of the Open House.

Open House Presentation Schedule

  • 4:30-5:30 pm Commercial Uses of Parkland
  • 6:00-7:00 pm General Overview of Master Plan
  • 7:00-8:00 pm Commercial Uses of Parkland
