Don't bring weapons to a court appearance

KELOWNA – A West Kelowna man took something with him to court that resulted in even more charges brought against him.

Robert Thompson, 34, arrived at the Kelowna Courthouse on Aug. 28, 2014 for a scheduled court appearance. When sheriffs asked to look inside his backpack, he refused, however the bag was later found on courthouse property and numerous prohibited weapons were discovered as well as a stash of illegal drugs.

According to a release from RCMP, the bag contained two knives, one a small switch-blade, a can of bear spray, an extendable baton, a pair of multi-tools, 13.8 grams of marijuana, 14 grams of hash, three pain pills and drug paraphernalia.

Thompson was charged with three counts of possession of a prohibited weapon and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

He will appear in court Dec. 29.
