Debris cleanup plan for Mission Creek

At the request of the Provincial Government, a plan has been developed by the Regional District of Central Okanagan Emergency Program for cleaning up and disposing of residential construction materials in Mission Creek.

Emergency Management BC has approved funding for the project that will see the collection of man-made residual debris, downstream from a creek-side Joe Rich area property that was flooded last month.  A Local State of Emergency was declared in order to remove and dispose of buildings on the property which posed a threat to the Highway 33 Bridge, crossing Mission Creek.

An initial assessment has been completed of downstream debris from the property.  A competitive bidding process is currently underway for qualified contractors that are able to safely carry out the project.  The clean-up will begin once a contract has been awarded and Mission Creek drops to a level that will allow workers to safely remove debris.

Property owners along Mission Creek, downstream from the property in the 11200 block of Highway 33 east, may continue to report man-made debris in the creek to the Regional District Community Services department at 250-469-6241.
