VERNON - Vernon Recreation Services is offering several recreation activities this fall.
The early-bird deadline for two local recreational hockey leagues is approaching and both leagues are looking for teams. The deadline for the new 45+ recreational hockey league and the co-ed 30+ fun league is Friday, Sept. 2, with the season scheduled to start in mid-September.
The 45+ non-contact recreational league has a 30-game schedule. One referee is provided for each game. All players must be 45 years old or over, with two players permitted under the age of 45. The cost to join the league for the 2016-2017 season is $6,200 until Sept. 2, and $6,500 afterwards.
The co-ed 30+ fun league is for those looking to have some relaxed and sometimes silly fun. This league has a 20-game schedule plus playoffs. One referee and scorekeeper will be provided for each game. Prior to Sept. 2, fees are $4,400 for the season and go up to $4,700 after.
Along with rec league hockey, Vernon Recreation Services is offering weekly co-ed multi-sport activities for adults, from dodgeball to handball, and volleyball to flag football.
The program is non-competitive with a major emphasis on sportsmanship. Each activity will require at least five players on the floor at all times, including two women. There will be a new sport every week from Sept. 29 to Dec. 1.
Teams play Thursdays at the Priest Valley Gym in a one-hour time block, scheduled between 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The cost per team is $525.
