Martin advances to Players' Championship final a day after announcing retirement

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - Kevin Martin's curling career is going to last one more game.

Martin led his Edmonton rink to a 6-5 victory over Winnipeg's Mike McEwen on Saturday in the semifinal of the Grand Slam of Curling's Players' Championship.

Martin shot 99 per cent and scored a point in the extra end a day after announcing his retirement from competitive curling.

He'll face Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., in the final on Sunday.

Jacobs, the Olympic men's champion, downed Brad Gushue of St. John's, N.L., 6-4 in their semifinal.

On the women's side, Ottawa's Rachel Homan will face Winnipeg's Jennifer Jones in the final.

Homan beat Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni 4-3 to advance to the championship match, while Jones dispatched Sweden's Margaretha Sigfridsson 8-7 in their semifinal.
