Crash knocks out power in Lake Country

LAKE COUNTRY - A power outage in Lake Country yesterday afternoon was the result of a traffic accident that took out a hydro pole.

A Lake Country man, 59, was driving his Dodge Ram pickup truck west along Okanagan Centre Road east when he went off the road and hit a pole around the 12800 block. The accident toppled the pole and damaged the power lines which began sparking. The man remained inside the vehicle until B.C. Hydro arrived to shut off power, allowing the fire department to remove him.

Power was restored later in the evening.

The man didn't suffer any serious injuries and was released at the scene.

It's believed speed and road conditions may have been factors in the crash.
