WEST KELOWNA - A 42-year-old West Kelowna woman is in custody after leading a slow speed chase and crashing into a police car.

At about 3 p.m. yesterday, West Kelowna RCMP noticed a white Ford Expedition leaving a known drug house. The officer followed the SUV for awhile before flipping on the emergency equipment. The car pulled into the car wash in the 2400 block of Dobbin Road and got out. When the officer told the woman to return to the SUV, she climbed in and drove off at slow speed with police following.

During the slow speed chase, the woman drove onto Brown Road and the police car pulled alongside with the Mountie motioning for her to pull over. That's when she drove the Ford into the front end of an unmarked police car.

After hitting the car, the woman sped off down Hwy 97 onto Glenrosa. The officer broke off the pursuit because continuing could endanger the public.

The car was later found abandoned on the 3400 block of Laird Court. Police received multiple tips from the public while the woman tried to get away. She was eventually spotted getting onto a city transit bus. The RCMP stopped the bus and arrested the woman after a brief struggle.

The woman faces potential charges of flight from police, dangerous driving, failing to remain at the scene of an accident, mischief, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. She's in custody with a court appearance scheduled for Sept. 16.
