VERNON - Crooks broke into a couple corner stores over the long weekend, apparently finishing what they’d started several days prior.
On Sunday around 4 a.m., Hunter’s Store was broken into. Lakeview Market was next. Crooks had kicked-in the doors of both stores Nov. 5, but failed to gain entry.
The focus of the smash and grabs? Cigarettes.
“That’s like cash on the street, you discount them on the street and you can make a lot of money,” RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says.
Police were busy over the long weekend with two other commercial break-ins, one involving stolen chainsaws in Enderby and another in Vernon in which expensive jackets were lifted from a clothing store.
