KAMLOOPS – A young girl would have been heartbroken if the RCMP had not found and returned her stolen backpack.

Early Saturday morning, police were investigating after a thief was spotted breaking into a car on the North Shore.

The RCMP weren’t able to track down the suspect but they did find a backpack during a search of the area.

Inside were an elementary school book, some clothing and a Mothers’ Day card and present.

The officers decided the backpack and it’s contents needed to be returned to their owner before Sunday morning.

While they had the student’s name, it was challenge tracking her down.

By the end of the day Saturday, police were successful. They showed up at the family’s home and returned the stolen goods.

Lisa Bigstone-Roberts, the young girl’s mother, wrote on the InfoTel News Facebook page, “My daughter Kyla was so happy and grateful for the officers delivering her backpack. Her dad had a huge sigh of relief when he realized her gifts were still in there.”

Bigstone-Roberts said someone smashed the window on their van overnight Friday, stealing the irreplaceable Mothers’ Day gifts.

She hopes to get the names of the officers who delivered the backpack to their home so she can thank them personally.
