Children celebrating culture

KAMLOOPS - During Culture Days, the non-profit Kamloops Child Development Centre will join with other groups to celebrate the many cultures that make up B.C. and Kamloops.

On Sept. 30, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., each classroom in our centre at 157 Holway St. will welcome people in Kamloops to come in and see how our children and teaching staff are focusing on cultures that have relevance to us, including those of the Japanese, Hindi, First Nations and African worlds.

We will have an art or craft project based on each classroom theme for children to do, art displays — with the art each classroom has created up for auction later in the evening — and snacks. There will be ethnic dancing and plenty of family activities, all to showcase the diversity of our centre and to celebrate children and their cultures.

It will be a jam-packed event and families are invited to bring their children down right at 5:30 p.m., enjoy a hot dog dinner (by donation), and move right into the activities. It will start winding down around 7:30 p.m. as everyone will be invited out, for the last hour, into our nature-based playground to participate in a drum circle, watch the dancers and then listen to an evening story.

We will also unveil our new logo during the evening.
