Chiefs get set to open season

Kelowna, BC – September 11, 2013 – It’s expected to be the best season yet for Rutland’s very own Kelowna Chiefs.

The team is gearing up for the start of the 2013/2014 Kootenay International Hockey season, which opens Friday September 13th in Princeton.

Then the rivalry between the Chiefs and Osoyoos Coyotes will pick up on Saturday September 14th at Rutland Arena in the Chiefs home opener.

The last time these two teams met was in Game 5 of the playoffs where the Chiefs were defeated on home ice in double overtime.

This season, the Chiefs welcome back 10 extremely skilled veterans to the roster including long time player Jordan Salahor.  “Sally” is entering his fourth season with the Chiefs, a rarity in the KIJHL.  His leadership qualities, both on and off the ice, have earned him the Captain position.

Besides the on ice portion of being a Kelowna Chief, players will also be out working hard Building a Stronger Community throughout Kelowna.  The team will once again be playing dodgeball and floor hockey with youth at the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club, participating in Wendy’s Dreamlift Day and local Remembrance Day Ceremonies.
