Chiefs defeat North Okanagan

KELOWNA – Make it five straight victories for Rutland’s very own Kelowna Chiefs.

Kelowna defeated division rival North Okanagan Knights 6 – 4 on Sunday afternoon in Armstrong, wrapping up a three game weekend.

Ryan Baim (2G) opened up scoring for Kelowna in the first period but North Okanagan would quickly take control of the match, netting two.

It was a whole different game in the second period.  Jagger Bowles would net his 11th of the season in the first 30 seconds followed by Baim’s second of the night.  Nicholas Gnazdowsky would wrap up scoring for the Chiefs after 40 minutes of play.

The Chiefs were up 4 – 3 heading into the third period.  Dylan Jamieson would score but the Knights wouldn’t give up.  Logan Geefs would add one on the power play.

Then in the final 24 seconds of the game, Nick Jospehs (1G, 1A) would score to solidify a 6 – 4 victory.

Kelowna would have 51 shots on goal against the Knights while Connor DeMelo faced 33 shots.

The Kelowna Chiefs extend their lead atop first place in the Okanagan Division with 21 points.  Osoyoos currently sits second with 18 points followed by North Okanagan.

Nick Josephs remains in first place of the KIJHL’s Top Scoring Leaders list with 16 goals and 16 assists, good for 32 points.  Jagger Bowles sits in third place with 10 goals and 19 assists for 27 points on the season.  The KIJHL’s Goalie Leaders list features Connor DeMelo in the 7th spot with a 2.41 goals against average in 11 games.

Up next for the Kelowna Chiefs, a home game against the Nelson Leafs this Saturday at Rutland Arena.  Followed by a road game to Princeton on Sunday.
