Celebrating our City’s volunteers

National Volunteer Week, April 6 – 12, is a time to recognize and celebrate the hard work and dedication of volunteers across Canada.

The City of Kelowna benefits from more than its fair share of residents who volunteer their time and energy at various facilities such as the Kelowna International Airport and with community programs including Snow Busters, Adopt-a-Stream, Adopt-a-Road, and RCMP citizen patrol – just to name a few.

“The volunteers in our community truly make a difference,” said Mayor Gray. “They contribute a great deal to the success of our City’s programs and events.”

The Kelowna Community Theatre has outstanding volunteers, like Lucien O’Shaughnessy who has dedicated more than 3,000 hours of his time to everything from small repairs to ushering. His positive attitude and sense of humour have been an added bonus.

Parkinson Recreation Centre also has enthusiastic volunteers who assist with a broad range of activities, from special events to aquatic programs. Creative and passionate volunteers, John Johnson, a volunteer since 2007, and Donald Prowall, a volunteer since 2012, enjoy helping out with the crafts programs.

The City would like to thank all of its exceptional volunteers for their commitment to bettering our community.
