TORONTO - Here are five things to look for in Canadian business this week:
Bank of Canada business outlook: The Bank of Canada will release its latest business outlook survey amid speculation that the country may be in a recession. The central bank had already flagged the sting of lower oil prices in its last outlook in April, and crude prices have remained relatively stagnant since.
Energy conference: Top brass in Calgary's oilpatch will be trading in their suits and ties for plaid shirts and jeans at the TD Securities Energy Conference on Tuesday and Wednesday. The annual event, which coincides with the Calgary Stampede, will be held against a backdrop of low oil prices and the Alberta government's impending royalty review.
Summits: Next week Toronto will play host to the Climate Summit of the Americas and the Toronto Global Forum. A number of leaders in politics, business and the environment are expected to attend both events, including Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne, former U.S. vice-president Al Gore and federal cabinet ministers Tony Clement and Lisa Raitt.
Postmedia financial results: Postmedia Network Canada Corp., owner of the National Post and other newspapers across Canada, will report its third-quarter financial results Thursday. They come after the company recently completed its acquisition of Sun Media's English-language newspapers.
Jobs report: Statistics Canada releases its labour force survey for June on Friday. The national unemployment rate in May remained locked at 6.8 per cent for the fourth straight month despite more people entering the workforce.
