VERNON — The City of Vernon has hit the jackpot.
Lake City Casino presented a $5,424 cheque to the city Monday towards fireworks for this year's Canada Day celebration.
Vernon Mayor Rob Sawatzky said the occasion is a great local event supported through partners like Lake City Casino, the Department of Canadian Heritage, numerous other businesses volunteers and in-kind donations.
"It's a great way to celebrate our community and being Canadian," Sawatzky said.
Event chair Terry Schmauder says Lake City's donation will allow coordinators to put on a very impressive light show.
"I am very excited about this year's show as we are presenting a spectacular choreographed display once again thanks to additional funding received from our corporate sponsor Lake City Casino," Schmauder said.
Fireworks will dazzle the sky July 1 starting at 10:30 p.m. Onlookers can gather at the DND grounds via Mission Rd.
