WEST KELOWNA - RCMP used a helicopter and a police dog this afternoon as they looked for a man they suspect stole a car today, July 4.

Just before 1 p.m. a West Kelowna RCMP officer saw a stolen vehicle speeding along Glenrosa Road near Gorman's Mill. The red Mazda Miata was travelling at "excessive speeds," according to Const. Jesse O'Donaghey.

The suspect ditched the vehicle and fled the area on foot towards the mill.

"An area of containment was established and the RCMP helicopter along with a RCMP Police Service Dog were called in to assist with the search for the auto theft suspect," O'Donaghey says. "The K9 track lead to and ended near the highway."

RCMP continue to interview witnesses at the scene and have seized the vehicle for examination.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880. Remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net or by texting your tip to CRIMES (274637) ktown.
