VERNON – SilverStar Mountain Resort is without power after a vehicle crashed into a power pole this morning.

A motorist, who did not wish to be named, says he drove past the accident scene on SilverStar Road this morning and saw the downed power pole. He says the pole was snapped right off and the wires were sagging quite low.

Kristy Jahn-Smith, with SilverStar, says there is a detour on Aspen Road while crews work to repair the damage.

The entire mountain is without power however, the chairlifts are still operating because they run on diesel fuel.

"They've been shutting down and cancelling a lot of things. Programs and afternoon lessons have all been cancelled," Jahn-Smith says.

Jahn-Smith says SilverStar will keep social media updated to inform people of the closures and cancellations.

Dave Philbey was on the mountain this morning. He says the power went out at approximately 10:30 a.m. Philbey saw hydro trucks driving up as he was driving down.

It isn't clear at this time how long SilverStar will be without power.
