Canada Day long weekend fun in Penticton

FILE PHOTO - The second annual Rotary Ribfest takes place in Penticton as the city gears up for a busy July 1 long weekend.

PENTICTON - The long weekend promises to be a busy one in Penticton with festivals, fun and sun all weekend long.

The forecast for the weekend looks ideal for summer activities, with a mix of sun and cloud and highs of 30 degrees Celsius predicted.

The second annual Rotary Club of Penticton Ribfest takes place June 30 to July 3 in Okanagan Lake Park with ribs, ribs, and more ribs. There will be a beverage garden, entertainment, a kids zone and free music throughout the entire event. Four champion barbecue teams from across the country will duke it out for top honours during the cook off. For more information, see the Ribfest website.

Slide the City comes to Penticton July 1 as well, with a huge side set up on Vancouver Avenue at Cambie Street. Sliders must be at least five years old and 46" tall to slide. See the Slide the City Penticton website for more details.

Canada Day Celebrations will take place in Gyro Park with non-stop entertainment all day, including live music, food vendors, kid’s activities, and fireworks at dusk. For a full schedule of activities, please see the Downtown Penticton Association webpage.

The second annual Penticton Scottish Festival & Highland Games take place at King’s Park with Celtic activities for everyone in the family. The event includes traditional events including the caber toss, heavy events, piping, drumming, highland dancing, stock dogs and whiskey tasting.
