PENTICTON - Penticton RCMP beefed up the ranks to deal with a busy weekend in Penticton and the South Okanagan.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says extra officers were on hand to deal with 175 calls for service in the city between Friday midnight and Sunday midnight, June 23 to 25.

Traffic divisions in the city and region also reported a busy weekend.

“It was a busy weekend for municipal and South Okanagan Traffic Services, with nine impaired drivers issued either Immediate Roadside Prohibitions, or charged criminally,” Wrigglesworth said, adding seven drivers were issued three day prohibitions, one was charged for being an unlicensed driver and four people charged for being prohibited drivers.

Two more drivers were charged with excessive speeding.

Wrigglesworth attributed the increase in activity to the suddenly sunny and hot summer-like conditions, noting Peach City Beach Cruise and Pacific Northwest Elvis Festival participants were well behaved.
