PENTICTON – A quick response from the Penticton Fire Department prevented a brush fire from spreading to nearby homes in the Dartmouth Drive area Saturday afternoon.

At about 1:30 p.m. Mike Doherty notices smoke billowing from the other side of his backyard fence.

He went out on his deck and was greeted by a wall of smoke from the heavy brush along his property.

“The flames were knee-high.”

There was a strong wind blowing.

“It got bad real fast,” Doherty said.

He said the fire fighters arrived in less than 10 minutes.

The remains of a small campfire were found at the bottom of the slope.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
