Booze and a shotgun don’t mix

A dispute over alcohol between friends in Tappen ended with a shotgun blast Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013. One of the friends is in jail while the other is in stable condition.

TAPPEN MAN SHOOTS BUDDY

TAPPEN – It was a fight over alcohol that landed a man in hospital with a shotgun wound and another in jail early Sunday morning.

The suspect called 911 alerting police to the fact he had shot his friend in self-defense. The shooting happened in the suspect’s home in Tappen, north of Salmon Arm.

When police arrived they found a 39-year-old man had been shot in the lower leg with a .410 bore shotgun.

“The man was allegedly being assaulted over an alcohol dispute,” according to RCMP Staff Sgt. Kevin Keane. “The two persons involved are known to each other and are self described as friends.”

The man with the shotgun wound is in stable condition.

The victim is frustrating the police investigation. He won’t cooperate.

The man who was allegedly wielding the shotgun is in police custody.

The RCMP say they won’t be releasing anymore information about the shooting while they continue to investigate the events that lead up to the shooting.
