Boil water advisory issued for Sorrento

SORRENTO — The community of Sorrento on Shuswap Lake is under a boil water advisory.

High turbidity levels, or cloudiness, in the water system has led the Columbia Shuswap Regional District to issue a boil water advisory today, May 7, for anyone using the Sorrento Water System.

High turbidity is common if surface water sources receive excessive runoff. It can “impair the effectiveness of the disinfection treatment system” according to a press release.

Any water to be consumed, including in ice cubes or while brushing teeth or washing food, should be boiled. Water should be boiled for a minute to help disinfect it. Alternatively, bottled water is an option.
