Original Publication Date June 20, 2016 - 3:37 PM

UPDATE June 25 5 p.m.: Police have confirmed the remains were of a Kelowna woman reported missing in May and have turned the investigation over to the B.C. Coroner's Service.

Sandra McLaughlan, 60, was reported missing May 19.

KELOWNA - A dead body has been found in the woods on Black Mountain in Kelowna this afternoon.

RCMP Const. Jesse O'Donaghey says police are currently on scene after a body was found in an "undeveloped area" on Black Mountain just before 2 p.m., June 20.

"The Kelowna RCMP are now confirming that the deceased body is that of a woman," O'Donaghey said in a release Tuesday. "The RCMP continue to work closely with the B.C. Coroners Service as they take the necessary steps to positively identify the deceased. The preliminary findings of the investigation suggest that foul play is not involved,"

Neither of the releases do not say who found the body, where exactly it was or in what state, but do say the investigation is in the early stages.

— This story was updated 3:15 p.m., June 21, 2016, to add the body found was that of a woman, as per an RCMP release.
