The first round pick of the Florida Panthers spent his first three seasons of pro hockey in the AHL before jumping into the NHL as a full-time player. Ellerby is now in his fifth NHL season and is playing for his third NHL team after stints with the Panthers and the Los Angeles Kings. In 194 career NHL games, Ellerby has collected 25 points and 88 penalty minutes.

Ellerby played in 213 games with the Blazers recording 38 points and 347 penalty minutes over three and a half seasons.

Prospects:

It was quite the week for four prospects as they all got a taste of WHL action with the Blazers this week.

Quinn Benjafield was the Blazers 1st round pick in 2013 and played his first WHL game in Vancouver on Wednesday night. The 6’1” and 165lb forward was solid playing a regular shift with veterans Joe Kornelsen and Matt Bellerive. The 15-year-old Benjafield has had a good season in the B.C. Major Midget League with 17 goals and 39 points in only 29 games this season.

Cam Reagan played two games with the Blazers this week and finished +1 playing a regular shift with defenseman Ryan Rehill. The 6’0” and 200lb defenseman was selected by the Blazers in the 4th round in 2012. The 16-year-old is playing with the Sherwood Park Kings of the Alberta Midget Hockey League. In 31 games, he has 20 points this season.

Jake Kryski played two games with the Blazers this week and has now played four games with the Blazers this season. The 15-year-old has elite speed and is dynamic with the puck creating two great chances at home against Kelowna with his speed but failing to score. He was acquired by the Blazers in July 2013 from the Prince Albert Raiders in exchange for overage goaltender Cole Cheveldave. Kryski has 33 points in 29 games this season with the Okanagan Rockets of the B.C. Major Midget League.

Deven Sideroff may have made the most impact of the young prospects this week. He suited up for four games this week and finished with three assists in his stint with the Blazers. The 16-year-old was dynamic on a line with fellow 16-year-old Nick Chyzowski and 17-year-old Collin Shirley. The trio combined for three goals on the weekend against the CHL’s top team, the Kelowna Rockets. Sideroff has 55 points in 33 games this season with the Okanagan Hockey Academy Midget Prep team.
