Wednesday, February 5, 2014 vs. Edmonton Oil Kings – 4-1 Loss

The game was tied 1-1 going into the third period, but the Oil Kings stepped up their game and scored three times in the third period for a 4-1 win. Matt Bellerive recorded his first goal with the Blazers on a rebound. Tyler Santos was Edmonton’s best player making 32 saves for the Oil Kings. 


Friday, February 7, 2014 vs. Victoria Royals – 3-1 Loss

Again, the Blazers were tied 1-1 heading into the third period but the Royals scored twice to win 3-1 over the Blazers. Defenseman Ryan Rehill opened the scoring on the power play for his third goal of the year. Tyler Soy scored the game winner for the Royals 1:29 into the third period while shorthanded.


Saturday, February 8, 2014 vs. Calgary Hitmen – 3-0 Loss

The Blazers could not solve goaltender Mack Shields as he stopped all 26 shots he faced for a 3-0 Calgary win. The Hitmen clung to a 1-0 lead through two periods, but finished the game 2-for-8 on the power play. The Blazers were 0-for-2 on the night.


Monday, February 10, 2014 vs. Tri-City Americans – 2-1 Loss

It was a 0-0 game until the third period. Matt Revel opened the scoring, but the Americans fought back for two goals and held on for a 2-1 win over the Blazers. Both goaltenders were outstanding in the game with Eric Comrie making 30 saves and Bolton Pouliot stopping 27 shots.


Dennis Coates Awarded WHL Distinguished Service Award

Congratulations to Kamloops lawyer Dennis Coates for being honoured with the WHL Distinguished Service Award prior to last Friday night’s game against the Victoria Royals.

Dennis has had a long association with the WHL and hockey in Kamloops since the early 1970s.

Alumni Update: Scott Wasden

Scott Wasden (2007-2009) has been playing his first professional season in Germany for the Duisburg Fuchse Hockey Club in Germany’s third division.

Wasden spent the past four seasons completing a Bachelor Degree in Commerce using the WHL scholarship program at UBC. He played four seasons with the Thunderbirds hockey program and did not miss a game playing all 28 games each season with the Thunderbirds.

Wasden played two and a half seasons with the Medicine Hat Tigers and won the WHL Championship in 2007. He was acquired from the Tigers midway through the 2007-08 season and was the Blazers team captain during the 2008-09 season. In 112 career games with the Blazers, Wasden recorded 53 points and 166 penalty minutes.


Prospect Update: Danton Davis

Danton Davis was recently listed by the Blazers and is playing this season with the Sherwood Park J. Ennis Kings of the Alberta Midget Hockey League.

Davis leads the Kings in scoring with 17 goals, 20 assists and 37 points in 33 games. He is currently playing with fellow prospect Cameron Reagan for the Kings.


Bowl for Kids Sake

The Kamloops Blazers will be participating in the Bowl For Kids Sake event again this year (formerly Strikes for Tykes) in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kamloops & Region. The entire Blazers team will participate, bowling at 5:30pm at Bowlertime on Monday, March 3rd.

Kamloops Blazers Hockey School will run once again from August 11-15, 2014 at the McArthur Island Sports Centre. Sign up quick as space is limited!
