Batter up! Regina ump gets called up to call Dodgers-Colorodo 3-game stand

REGINA - A Regina man will be making his Major League Baseball debut Friday night.

Stu Scheurwater won't be playing — he'll be an umpire in a three-game series in Los Angeles between the Dodgers and Colorado Rockies.

Scheurwater, who is 30, is in his third season working in the triple-A Pacific Coast League.

He's excited, and says he might be a bit awestruck at first.

"You're only human to be a little bit nervous when you're up on the a big stage like that, you're definitely going to get that extra boost of adrenaline ... it sure beats being behind a desk some days."

Scheurwater hopes this becomes a permanent gig.

Currently there are no full-time Canadian umps in the major league.
