Barriere police say sexual assault was 'isolated incident;' suspect released from custody

BARRIERE - A Barriere man charged with sexual assault has been released from police custody.

Cpl. Madonna Saunderson says in a media release Byung Koo Lee, 61, has been charged with one count of sexual assault after an incident in August. Court documents states Lee sexually assaulted a woman "on or about the 26th day to the 30th day of August, 2016, inclusive."

Crown counsel spokesperson Dan McLaughlin says the wording of the charge makes it unclear whether there was a series of offences that took place between those days, or a single event happened in that time period.

Lee has been released from police custody pending a future court appearance.

"To protect the identity of the victim, no further information will be released at this time," Saunderson says in the release. "We believe this to be an isolated incident and don't believe the public to be at risk."

iNFOnews.ca will not be publishing the victim's age to protect her identity.
