Balcony climber gets mental assessment

Penticton RCMP chased down a man allegedly seen climbing motel balconies in the city last week.

PENTICTON - Penticton RCMP had their hands full last Sunday night as they searched the city for a man believed to be suffering mental health issues.

Police spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says police were called to investigate complaints of a man running around the exterior of several motels in the city, climbing balconies on Sunday evening, July 10.

The man managed to elude police for several hours before being apprehended. He exhibited signs of paranoia, telling police he was running from people who were chasing him.

The man was arrested under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for assessment.
