Autopsy of body found on sidewalk to take place this week

RCMP are releasing very few details surrounding the investigation into the suspicious death of a 32-year-old man found dead on a sidewalk in Rutland Saturday morning.

KELOWNA – RCMP are releasing very few details surrounding the investigation into the suspicious death of a 32-year-old man found dead on a sidewalk in Rutland Saturday morning.

Const. Kris Clark says although no one has been taken into custody, they are in possession of surveillance footage showing someone they believe to be the suspect.

An autopsy is scheduled to be performed in the next 48 hours.

“Within the next couple of days we should have autopsy results that may or may not lead to a determination whether this is a homicide or not,” Clark says.

Police came upon the body of Chris Ausman laying in a pool of blood at approximately 2:06 a.m Saturday while on routine patrol.

No one has been arrested or taken into custody and no weapon has been recovered.

“Any time there is a death we’re going to investigate as if it’s a homicide until it’s proven otherwise,” Clark says.

Police continue to follow up with businesses in the area and ask that anyone with any information contact Kelowna RCMP at (250) 762-3300.
