NEW DELHI - At least 34 people were killed and dozens more injured in India in a powerful earthquake that struck neighbouring Nepal on Saturday, the government said.
At least 23 people were killed in the eastern state of Bihar in the seven districts that share a border with Nepal, India's Home Ministry said in a statement. Eight people were killed in Uttar Pradesh state. House and wall collapses killed three in West Bengal state.
Dozens in India were also injured in the magnitude-7.8 quake.
Five teams from India's National Disaster Response Force have been sent to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to help with relief work, the ministry's statement said.
