KELOWNA – A B.C. wide warrant has been issued for a Langley man whose distracted driving killed someone in Kelowna five years ago.

The warrant for Mark Sameer Batraki, 41, is for a hit and run police say happened in South Langley April 6 of this year. He has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

This isn’t Batraki’s first driving offence. He has dozens of criminal convictions, including dangerous driving and has lost his licence at least three times prior.

In March 2012 he pleaded guilty to driving his jeep into the back of a motorcycle stopped at a red light on Harvey Avenue in Kelowna.

Global Okanagan reports the driver of the bike, Jules Kreeft, was killed and his wife badly injured.

He claimed to have been doing shoulder checks for a lane change but a Kelowna judge sentenced him to three months in jail, a $1,500 fine and a five year driving prohibition.

A media release today, Sept. 14, from Cpl. Holly Largy says Batraki’s last known address is in Kelowna although police have been unable to find him to execute the warrant.

Batraki is a Middle Eastern man, 5’10” tall, 190 lbs with brown hair and hazel eyes.

If you have information that might help police locate Mark Batraki call Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.
