Apple Triathlon road and parking closures

KELOWNA - The 33rd annual Apple Triathlon will be taking place on Friday, Aug. 21, Saturday, Aug. 22, and Sunday, Aug. 23. Leading up to and during the event, there will be a number of closures and transit changes throughout downtown, North Kelowna and Glenmore.

Motorists are asked to use caution during race weekend and keep an eye out for athletes prior to and during the event as some will be familiarizing themselves with the course. Race maps are available at appletriathlon.com. Motorists are also encouraged to plan their routes accordingly to avoid delays.

Thursday, August 20 – Monday, August 24
Parking lot closure (5 p.m. Aug. 20 – 6 p.m. Aug. 24)
·         Dolphins parking lot (monthly permit holders can park in lot on both days)

Saturday, August 22 – Sunday, August 23
Road Closure
Water Street from Sunset Drive to Cawston Avenue will be closed from Saturday, August 22 at 4 a.m. to Sunday, August 23 at 6 p.m. This road closure is to accommodate the transition area during both race days. Access to Prospera and Delta Grand parking lots will be available after event hours.

Parking Restriction
Parking will also be restricted along the race route. Beginning at 5:30 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, vehicles parked along the race route in downtown Kelowna will be courtesy towed to the City Hall parking lot, Memorial Arena parking lot, or behind the Boys and Girls Club at 1633 Richter Street. Vehicles parked in residential areas will be relocated around the corner or across the street to keep off the race course.

Parking will be available in the Library parkade, Lawrence Avenue parkade and in other downtown locations.

Transit Service
Transit service will be impacted on Saturday with significant impacts on Sunday with daily detours in effect from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Route 7 Glenmore and Route 2 North End will be re-routed. Stops along Graham Street, Water Street and Ellis Street to Bay Street will be closed.

On Sunday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., Route 2 North End will operate north and southbound on Richter Street turning back via Bay Street, Kingsway, and Cambridge Avenue (no service to any Water or Ellis Street stops). The Route 5 stop on Clement Avenue and first two stops south of Clement on Gordon Drive will be closed. Route 7 Glenmore will have significant stop closures along Graham Street, Clifton Road and High Road. Stops on Glenmore southbound will have to cross the race course to load on east lane of southbound Glenmore. Route 10 stop closures east of Burtch Road on Bernard Avenue will be closed.

·         Water Street (west side only from Clement Avenue to the Water Street boat launch)
·         Cawston Avenue (north side only from Water Street to Ellis Street)
·         Ellis Street (Cawston Avenue to Recreation Avenue)
·         Recreation Avenue (Ellis Street to Richter Street)
·         Clement Avenue (Sunset Drive to Gordon Drive)
·         Graham Street (Clement Avenue to Coronation Avenue)
·         Coronation Avenue (Graham Street to Gordon Drive)

The Water Street Boat launch and parking lot will be closed from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Alternate boat launches are available at Cook Road, Sutherland Park and Queensway.

Sunday, Aug. 23
Road closures (6 a.m. – 1 p.m.)
·         Water Street (west side only from Doyle Avenue to Queensway Avenue)
·         Queensway Avenue (north side only from Water Street to Mill Street)
·         Bernard Avenue (Mill Street to Abbott Street)
·         Abbott Street (west side only from Bernard Avenue to City Park entrance)
·         Clement Avenue (Sunset Drive to Ellis Street)
·         Ellis Street (Clement Avenue to Knox Mountain Drive)
·         Royal View Drive (south side only from Knox Mountain Drive to Mt. Royal Drive
·         Mt. Royal Drive & Mountain Avenue (from Royal View Drive to Skyline/Clifton Road)
·         Skyline/Clifton Road (from Mountain Avenue to High Road)
·         High Road from Clifton Road to Glenmore Road
·         Clement Avenue (north side only from Spall Road to Clifton Road)
·         Graham Street (Clement Avenue to Coronation Avenue)
·         Coronation Avenue (St. Paul Street to Graham Street)
·         St. Paul Street (Coronation Avenue to Cawston Avenue)
·         Cawston Avenue (St. Paul Street to Water Street)

Parking lot closures (6 am – 1 p.m.)
·         Water Street boat launch parking lot
·         City Park parking lot
·         Queensway Parking lot
·         Mill Street Parking lot

Boat launch closures (6 am – 1 p.m.)
·         Water Street boat launch
·         Queensway boat launch
·         Sutherland Park boat launch

Alternate boat launch available at Cook Road.

Boat locks in Waterfront Park will be closed on Saturday, Aug. 22  and Sunday, Aug. 23 from approximately 6 a.m. – 4 p.m. as the pedestrian bridge will be in place to accommodate the run route.
