VERNON - The dusty air conditions in Vernon are being stubborn.

An advisory issued yesterday, Feb. 28, remains in effect today, March 1, according to a bulletin from the Ministry of Environment.

The advisory was put out in collaboration with the Interior Health Authority due to high concentrations of coarse particulates.

The conditions are expected to persist until there is a change in the weather.

This latest advisory follows two others issued so far this year. The first advisory of the year was issued Jan. 31 and lifted on Feb. 3. Another was issued Feb. 23, and again on Feb. 25, and eventually lifted on Feb. 26.

People with chronic underlying medical conditions are being told to postpone strenuous exercise until the advisory is lifted. Staying indoors and in air-conditioned spaces helps to reduce particulate exposure. Exposure is particularly a concern for infants, the elderly and those who have diabetes, and lung or heart disease.

“Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath,” according to the alert.

Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.
