Annual 4-20 events in Kamloops bring a police presence

FILE PHOTO - A crowd gathers in Riverside Park in Kamloops for a 4-10 event, April 20, 2016.

KAMLOOPS - As long as demonstrators keep things peaceful, they won't be smoked out of annual 4-20 events in Kamloops today.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says officers will be monitoring the event today, April 20, as they do each year.

Police are aware of one planned demonstration in Spirit Square, but Shelkie says since they have been held in Riverside Park before, RCMP is also prepared for an event there.

Shelkie says demonstrations in years previous have been peaceful in Kamloops and they are expecting the same for this year.

"We will have extra police presence in the area and will be monitoring for impaired drivers after the event," Shelkie says.
