KELOWNA – A Kelowna man spent the night in jail after smashing his car into a house in the city late last night.
RCMP say officers were called at about 11:07 p.m., Aug. 21, after a car crashed into a home at Pandosy Street and Glenwood Avenue near Kelowna General Hospital.
The driver took off on foot, but was chased down by a witness to the crash, according to a RCMP media release.
“An officer arrived on scene and assumed custody of the suspect who displayed signs and symptoms of possible alcohol intoxication,” Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says in the release. “As a result, a demand was made of the driver who refused to provide samples of his breath.”
O’Donaghey says due to the suspect’s “high level of intoxication” he spent the night in RCMP cells.
No one was hurt in the crash.
A Kelowna man, 23, has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 3 facing possible charges of impaired driving, fail or refuse to provide a breath sample, fail to remain at the scene of a crash and obstructing a police officer.
