KELOWNA - Police continue to search for a suspect who allegedly bear-sprayed a store employee during a shoplifting attempt Sunday afternoon.

Just after 3 p.m. May 25, Kelowna RCMP were called to Costco Wholesale store at 2479 Hwy. 97 north because someone allegedly sprayed an employee located at the front door. Children in the area were also affected.

Witnesses told police the suspect attempted to leave with a full cart of goods she hadn't paid for and sprayed the staff member when she was confronted at the door. The woman fled on foot, running across Highway 33 leaving her cart of items behind. She wasn't located.

No injuries were reported, though several people required treatment to remove the bear spray.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, 5'4", 115 pounds, blond hair with an orange tinge worn in a ponytail, pock-marked face. She was wearing a white tank-top, white or grey sweater and red mini-skirt. She was also carrying a backpack.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Kelowna RCMP, Const. Flaman at 250-762-3300. Remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net or by texting your tip to CRIMES (274637) ktown.
