Alleged bank robber caught

WEST KELOWNA - An arrest was made yesterday in connection with a bank robbery that happened last month.

The robbery took place May 31 at the TD Canada Trust located at 525 Hwy 97 south at about 7:40 p.m. A man entered the bank wearing a ski jacket, baseball cap, jeans, sunglasses and a mask. The man then jumped over the counter, demanding money and armed with what appeared to be a can of bear spray. He took off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Though a police service dog helped officers track the suspect, the only items located were clothing and a get-away bike while the man got away.

Nobody was injured in the robbery.

On June 25, Ryan Therrien, 24, was arrested. He remains in custody and has since been charged with robbery and also with using a disguise. He is expected to appear in court again July 11.
