JUNEAU, Alaska - The Latest on Alaska's U.S. Senate race (all times local):

9:20 p.m.

U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski cast herself as a champion for Alaska's fishing industry, while independent Margaret Stock questioned the pace of progress by Alaska's congressional delegation on several issues during a Senate debate in Kodiak.

The fisheries-focused debate also featured Democrat Ray Metcalfe and independent Breck Craig.

Murkowski defended her record, including in drawing State Department attention to concerns raised by conservationists and fishermen about the impact of Canadian mining activity on waters that flow across the border into southeast Alaska. She says it's been difficult because the State Department hasn't seen the issue as warranting urgent attention. Stock suggested that more could be done.

There also were some light-hearted moments.

During a speed round, candidates were for their favourite Alaska seafood and how they like it prepared.

Stock says she likes rockfish with some butter. Metcalfe said he likes crab prepared "quickly."

Craig says he likes barbecued salmon and Murkowski says she likes halibut and salmon, prepared any way.

Libertarian U.S. Senate candidate Joe Miller won't be at a fisheries debate Wednesday night in Kodiak.

His campaign says Miller is on a swing through southeast Alaska. The campaign says Miller had stops scheduled for Wednesday in Sitka and Juneau and for Thursday in Ketchikan.

Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski's two other main rivals, Democrat Ray Metcalfe and independent Margaret Stock, are slated to participate in the debate along with Murkowski, as is little-known independent candidate Breck Craig.

U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski and several of her rivals will be debating Wednesday night in Kodiak.

Scheduled to appear with the Republican Murkowski are Democrat Ray Metcalfe and independents Margaret Stock and Breck Craig.

Absent will be Libertarian candidate Joe Miller. Miller spokesman Randy DeSoto has said that Miller will be in Sitka Wednesday but plans to visit Kodiak later.

The debate is expected to focus on fisheries issues and be broadcast on public radio.

This is one of four debates or forums that Murkowski has committed to participating in leading to next month's general election.
